You can find the firmware version on your Sony PSP games console by scrolling left on the main screen of the PSP and then selecting the following;
SETTINGS ->
SYSTEMS SETTINGS ->
SYSTEM INFORMATION ->
SYSTEM SOFTWARE
The firmware version of the PSP is constantly being updated with newer features such as Web browsers, full size wallpapers, etc.
The only downside to upgrading is that Sony have cracked down on being able to play free homebrew games on the PSP and have introduced features to stop freeware games being played.
