Is your slow computer giving you a headache? Are you constantly being harassed with those annoying pop-ups? Do you want to throw your computer out of the window and by a new one? Well you are in luck because these 5 tips will help you fix your slow computer.

1. Check your memory because it may be time to add more memory.

a. To check your memory go to go to the Start menu, click Settings, and then click Control Panel. Click System and then select the General tab. At the bottom of the page you should see the amount of RAM.

b. The amount of memory you need will depend on your operating system. For Windows 98, 128 MB to 256 MB is more than enough. For Windows XP, if you're just surfing the Internet and writing letters, you need 256 MB to 512 MB. If you play a lot of games or use a lot of applications at the same time then you will need to go from 512 MB to 1 GB RAM. RAM modules can be purchased in 128 MB, 256 MB, and 512 MB sizes.

2. Run a virus scan to check for adware and spyware.

a. Spyware and Adware is software made by publishers that allow them to snoop on your browsing activity, invade your privacy, and flood you with those horrible popups. Click Here! to check your computer for adware and spyware.


3. Delete unecessary files that may be saved on your hard drive.

4. Delete your temporary internet files/cookies.

a. Open your internet explorer; go to Tools, Internet Options, Click "Delete Cookies" and "Delete Files" then click "Apply".

5. Check your Privacy Settings under Internet Options.

a. To check your privacy settings open your internet explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options, and Click "Privacy" and make sure the Privacy setting is set to Medium. If it's not you can just move the sliding bar up until it says Medium.

Having a slow computer can really be frustrating but by implementing these tips you can improve your pc's performance and protect your personal information.
